With summer break and graduation just around the corner, we’ve compiled a list of adulting essentials for those who are anticipating entering the ‘real world’ after walking across that arena. With these tips under your wing, you’ll master the adulting basics in no time!

Start Cooking


Let’s face it, we’re not all Michelin star chefs, but that shouldn’t stop you from cooking your own meals! Cooking your own food is an important step in adulting. How else will you get the energy needed to do the other adulting tips on this list? Start small, look up recipes and start playing around with them. By cooking your own meals not only are you saving money, but you also get to make food to your liking! It’s also not a bad way to impress a date.

Rest Up


Going through the routines of adulthood can be very stressful and exhausting, that’s why it is extremely important to give your body enough rest each day. The recommended hours of sleep for an average adult is between 7-9 hours per night. Sleep allows for your body to recover from your strenuous daily routine. Your body will thank you in the long run.

Save Your Money


The key difference between university life and adulthood is money. Post-grad you may find yourself very tight on money. Many are use to getting money from our parents, grants, or loans. After entering the real world, you may find money hard to come by so start saving up and spending  your hard earned cash wisely. Try to always pay in cash as you’ll be more conscious of how much you are actually spending. Also, avoid generic ATM charge. Those $2 may seem like nothing now but they add up if you withdraw from them every other week; or worse, every other day.

Chill Out


It’s important to embrace your adulthood and do your daily grind, but it is also important to embrace your social circles as well. We’ve all had that one friend that dropped off the face of the Earth as they overload themselves with work and school. Make it your priority to find the balance in your life. Make time for school and work but also make time to just relax and spend some time with your close friends and family. Use this time to destress from your work week.

Organize Your Life


Adulthood is like a hurricane of events all engulfing you at once. So how do you combat adulthood? You plan your life out. Get a planner or just a calendar and divide all that needs to be done. This cuts out those surprise moments when you remember a task that needs to be done an hour before bed. When you plan your life you reduce your stress levels and stay ahead of the game. This also allows you to pencil in some well deserved personal time when you find them.

Take Care of Yourself

The ultimate adulting tip is to take care of yourself. As adults, it can be pretty easy to overwork yourself and not even know it until it’s too late. Learn to take things slow and breathe. If you get sick, it’s okay to take a day off to recover. It’s time to be your own parent and maintain your own health and wellness.
